Ira Byock, MD, will speak in Missoula, Saturday, April 14 at 7:00 pm, on
"The Best Care Possible:
Celebrating Medicine, Facing Death, Finding Life"
1400 Gerald Avenue (Christ the King), Missoula
Free and open to the public.
Dr. Ira Byock will give a free public talk, community discussion and book signing Saturday evening, April 14. Dr.
Byock, now at Dartmouth Medical School, was co-founder of the Missoula Demonstration Project in 1997 and has become a national
leader in palliative and end of life care. His talk will focus on the meaning of ‘the best care possible’ for
families, friends and congregations. Byock finds that death "uncovers the spiritual core of the human being,"
and e can create life-giving personal and spiritual growth for the person whose life is ending, and for family and friends.
His new book, The Best Care Possible: A Physician’s Quest to Transform Care Through the End of Life, is available
now at Fact and Fiction, and will be sold at the talk. There will be a reception and book signing after the talk, and information
available about local resources for end-of-life care and advanced directives.
This talk and community discussion is sponsored by the Western Montana Spiritual Development Council. Congregations
are invited to use this event and the book to start “the conversations” that we all need to have with our families
and friends about their wishes, and about ours. This is an important conversation for everyone, not just the eldest among
us!
